"We Won't Talk About It"

Sherrod Brown was on the campaign trail Tuesday down in Marietta, Ohio trying to drum up support for his Senate bid come November. According to The Marietta Times, Sherrod spoke to a crowd of 19- yes a whole 19 - Democrats in a restaurant in Marietta touting his usual obsessions like health care, perscription drugs, and Medicare. However at the end of the article, a reporter asked Brown a question regarding the boiling controversy about his campaigns involvment in getting fellow Democrat Paul Hackett to drop out of the race. Heres how they put it:
But when talk turned to speculation that his campaign was responsible for
spreading rumors about the Iraq war service record of Paul Hackett, his former
Democratic opponent, he quickly diffused the rumors and moved on to meeting more
local elected officials.

"My campaign did none of that. I did none of that," Brown said about the
national reports.

"We won't talk about it."

Gee...I wonder why?!?

How many people do you think would show up at a restaurant in Marietta to see a senate candidate speak a full 3 months before a PRIMARY--the general election is A LLLLLOOOOONNNNGGGG ways away! Are you kidding me--19 is probably above average.

What proof do YOU have of Brown spreading these rumors? I can't provide proof that he didn't, but this speculation on everyone's part is soooooo incredibly unnecessary. Hackett needs to let it go, and the media needs to, you know, actually do something worth while.
