Supreme Court Backs Unanimously Backs Military

Thankfully the Justices of the Supreme Court have a level head when it comes to the military. Some college campuses have kicked out military recruiters for various reasons while still receiving federal dollars. In my opinion, it is wrong for a college to expect the government to give them money when they wont even allow the military to recruit capable students. If these schools want to snub their noses at the government, then the government has every right to do the same. Evidentally, the suit was originally filed by various law schools to protest the "dont ask, dont tell" policy, however I personally feel that it has more to with politics than sexual orientation. Here is some of an article from the AP:
Justices rejected a free-speech challenge from law schools and their professors who claimed they should not be forced to associate with military recruiters or promote their campus appearences.
Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the court, said that the campus visits area an effective military recruiting tool.
"A military recruiter's mere presence on campus does not violate a law schools right to associate, regardless of how repugnant the law school considers the recruiters message," he wrote.

Let me say real quick that I really like John Roberts. But here is more of the article:
The ruling was announced on a day that the court was jammed with visitors from the military, all dressed in uniform. Justices heard arguments in the case in December, and signaled then that they were concerned about hindering a Defense Department need to fill its ranks when the nation at war.
"This is an important victory for the military and ulitmately for our national security," said Jay Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice."

Damn right.

And the Winner is...

Tonight, Hollywood big shots will celebrate themselves during a ceremony of narcisstic praise and excruciating acceptance speeches and Joan Rivers. Personally, I cannot stand the whole Hollywood environment and persona. I dont dislike all actors, however the majority of them have lost all bearing on reality. In recent years, these award shows have become more than just celebritites getting awards for making dumb movies, they have become a political event ( Jon Stewart is hosting tonight if you want proof), so much so that I really cannot even stomach to watch them anymore. It's bad enough people like Reese Witherspoon get $29 million to make a single movie--yeah thats no typo, but now we have to listen to these people think they can solve the worlds problems. I hope Reese enjoys her cash and whatever she buys with the payout from her next bad movie while there are American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan dodging bullets and IED's making $30,000 a year. The only awards show I wanna see is an Oscar's for the military and bravery, the people who really deserve our praise and admiration. But the truth be told, they dont need it, nor want it, those men and women in uniform do their duty whether we acknowledge it or not, they dont do it for award shows, red carpets, or huge paychecks--simple as that. Thank God for them. Without their sacrafice these idiots in Cali wouldnt be able to run their big mouths while sacraficing absolutely nothing for the country they are so quick to condemn. Its a shame, it really is. I would love to make some predictions for tonights big show, however, since Wedding Crashers and War of the Worlds (the only movies I saw) were not really nominated for much, I feel I am unprepared for such an endeavor. I instead direct you to conservative columnist Ann Coulters predictions which are extremely objective and fair, just like most of Ann's opinions...enjoy!

Newsweeks View of the Buckeye State

A recent article in Newsweek magazine gives a pretty good overview of the politics going on in Ohio right now. I dont necessarily agree with everything in it, however the author does a fairly nice job or portraying both party's attempt to win in November. Here is one interesting portion:
The only way the Republicans can win in Ohio is if the Democrats blow it, and they're working at it. Democratic Party Leaders pressured Iraq war veteran Paul Hackett to withdraw from the Senate race (in favor of a veteran congressman) with undercover operatives launching a whisper campaign about Hackett's service that was reminiscent of the Swift Boats Veterans for Truth campaign against Kerry--and equally reprehensible. And with every House seat critical for the Democrats to regain control, the party is seeking to retain a seat of Rep. Ted Strickland, their candidate for governor, but still fell short of the required number of 50 signatures. Fifty signatures! How hard is that? In addition to these snafus, after a string of losses over two decades, Ohio Democrats arent sure they know their voters anymore. The political muscle of the religious right, which grew the conservative electorate in a state historically focused on bread-and-butter-issues, has Democrats running scared, as well it should.

The only part I disagree with is where she says the only way the GOP can win is if the Dems blow it. I concede this election will be difficult for Republicans, but I have no doubt that our values and positions on important issues will inevitably win the day. Butthe rest of the article is very informative and I suggest you read it...enjoy!

Was David Gregory Wasted?

This is a fun story to report. NBC News White House Correspondent David Gregory was on the Don Imus radio show the other day and seemed to be drunk. Gregory was on the phone talking to Imus while he was traveling with the President in Asia, but was just laughing and talkin incoherently during most of the interview. Some say that the poor man is just suffering from exhaustion, however it seems to me he was a little under the influence. A website has been formed called FireDavidGregory.com and there you can view the tape and I recommend you do cause it is quite funny. Now, I doubt he will be fired and personally have no problem with Gregory getting tanked and making a fool out of himself in public, I mean heck, he makes a fool out of himself almost daily during the White House press breifings when hes sotally tober...wait what?

Cheers David.

Hindsight is Bi-Partisan

Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf coast almost 6 months ago, yet the finger-pointing continues in full force. Recently a tape was released by the Associated Press which showed President Bush in a meeting with top officials discussing the hurricane prior to its landfall. This tape once again gives Democrats and the media more ammo to simply blame the whole thing on Bush. But yesterday a tape surfaced showing the failures at the state level when Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco said that the levees were not breeched the morning after the storm hit. And there is no doubt in anyones mind that New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin failed to properly get people out of the city in the days before Katrina, even leaving dozens of school buses that were to be used to evacuate citizens idle allowing many to be stranded after the waters began to rise. All that I am sayin here is that these tapes are not anything Americans didnt know 5 months ago. We need to get past this political bickering and implement plans of action in case a disaster like this happens again. Few remember that a strong hurricane (Rita) hit the Texas coast shortly after Katrina, but because the proper measures were taken and people got out as they should, it is mostly forgotten. New Orleans was a sitting duck. Im from Cleveland, and I know that NO is under sea level, so when a category 5 hurricane is barreling toward a city that sits below the sea surrounding it, it aint' good.
Everyone is to blame for what happened, from the President to the Governor to the Mayor and even the people who could have gotten out that didnt. But we are months beyond the blame game, we should do ourselves, and especially those of us who live on the ocean, a favor by cutting out the politics to be assured that what happened in New Orleans is never repeated.

By the way, the 2006 hurricane season starts June 1st.

Why We NEED the Patriot Act

In my opinion, the Patriot Act is the single most important piece of legislation passed since September 11th. Without it, our hands were tied, but since, we have been able to thwart numerous terror attacks and arrest dozens of terrorists, which before 9/11 was impossible. Rep. James Sensenbrenner wrote an article in the USATODAY making a strong case for the renewel of the Patriot Act. Here are his reasons:
So what has the Patriot Act done? It has been a tremendous asset in helping thwart other terrorist attacks. The Justice Department and other agencies have properly utilized these new tools to detect, disrupt, and dismantle terrorist cells in New York, Virginia and Oregon before they strike. Since 9/11, the Justice Department has charged hundreds of defendents, of whom more than half have been convicted or pleaded guilty, as a results of terrorism-related investigations.

Most important, this renewal would permanently tear down the pre-9/11 "wall" that prevented theFBI and CIA from communicating. This law recognizes the vital importance of sharing information to "connect the dots." The Patriot Act has made it much more difficult for America's enemies to live openly among us as the plot to murder innocent Americans.

His ending is very good:
We must never forget we are a nation at war with an enemy determined to extinguish our nation, our values and our civil liberties. The Patriot Act has kept us safer and has not violated anyone's civil rights. It deserves to be renewed.

Rep. Sensenbrenner is exactly right in his analysis. The Patriot Act is a tool we need in our arsenal to defeat the attempts of terrorists to attack our country and kill innocent Americans. We still face the same threat we did in the weeks after 9/11 when this bill was passed almost unanimously. Although Al-Qaeda has been weakened significantly because of the war on terror, they still want to hit us, and without the Patriot Act they will. I dont know how any lawmaker who voted for this in 2001 can vote against it now except for strickly political reasons. And any elected official who is willing to put politics infront of our security on their list of priorities does not even deserve to live in this country, let alone make the laws we live by. When the renewel comes to a vote, I will post every lawmaker who votes against it so you all can see the list of people who are willing to hide behind the BS excuse of protecting civil liberties rather than doing their solumn duty to protect every single American citizen from the wrath of terrorism.

We must renew the Patriot Act.

*YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS*

Ok this is absolutely unbelievable. A 10th grade kid in Denver got his teacher on tape going ballistic about all things political. Among others, this teacher, whose name is Jay Bennish by the way, says the United States is the single most violent country on earth, says there are "eerie similaties between George W. Bush and Adolph Hitler," proves to be anti-semetic by blaming the Isralies for most problems in the Middle East, and most disturbing he actually justifies 9/11 in the eyes of the hijackers. I am so glad this tape came out, because not only will it hopefully ruin this guys career, but it shows plain as day the truth behind how liberals in the country view the world today. If there could be a Liberal Convention, this is a speech that their candidate would give. It goes through all the points, and shows just how crazy their positions are. The tape is alittle over 20 minutes long, but it is well worth to hear this quack go off. I hope they fire this jerk, even thought I realize if they do he will become a martyre for the far left and probably will get a book deal and a movie contract or something...but so be it.

Here is the link to the tape

Enjoy.

Even Bill Clinton Supports UAE Port Deal

Former President Bill Clinton has been advising the United Arab Emirates recently on ways to quell anger from the American people so they can show themselves adequate to run many major U.S. Ports. Evidentally, Clinton was monumental in getting the UAE to recommend a 45-day delay to allow an investigation to prove that this deal wont hurt U.S. National Security. Clinton has even gone as far as to say that the UAE is "a good ally to America." Here is more info from the Financial Times:
Mr. Clinton's spokesman said: "President Clinton is the former president of the US and as such receives many calls from world leaders and leading figures every week. About two weeks ago, the Dubai leaders called him and he suggested that they submit to the full and regular scrutiny process and that they should put maximum safeguards and security into any port proposal."

The thing about this that makes me laugh about this is how PO'ed Hillary must be (first Monica now this...eeek). She is leading the fight in Congress to get this deal axed, and how her beloved husband is helping the UAE take steps to win the battle. Clinton's spokesguy said this:
He added that Mr. Clinton supported his wife's position on the deal and that "ideally" state-owned companies would not own US port operations.

Uh-huh.

Now its Mississippi Trying Abortion Ban

South Dakota is doing it, so why not Mississippi? If you have been reading my posts lately I have really been interested in this new movement by state legislatures to outlaw abortions. As I have said before, the implications of this are enormous, and the more states that decide to take these actions,The bigger the inevitable climax will be. Today, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said that he would 'likely' sign a bill that banned most abortion in his state. Here is some info from the Sunherald:
[Mississippi] already has some of the strictest abortion laws in the
nation. The bill that passed the House Public Health Committee on Tuesday would
allow abortion only to save the pregnant woman's life. It would make no
exception in cases of rape or incest.

Here's what the Gov. had to say:
Responding to questions about whether he'd sign a bill with no exceptions
for rape or incest, Barbour said: "It hasnt gotten to my desk yet. When one gets
there, we'll find out, and I suspect I'll sign it. But I would certainly rather
it come to my desk with an exception for rape and incest. I think that's
consistent with the opinion of th vast majority of Mississippians and
Americans."
The bill goes to the full House, which could vote next week. Speaker Billy
McCoy, D-Rienze, said he believes it will pass the House and move to the
Senate.

This is huge. And as I've said before the Supreme Court will have to take this up sooner or later, and Im betting on sooner.
Terry Herring, president of Pro-Life Mississippi, said she hopes the state will
outlaw abortion, but shes not certain whether there's a majority on the U.S.
Supreme Court willing to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court ruling
establishing the right to an abortion.

And the plot thickens.

Bush Makes Surprise Visit to Afghanistan

President Bush made a good PR move today! Its been awhile since I could say that with confidence. The Prez made an unannounced visit to Afghanistan to meet with the leaders of that nation and also some of the US troops that are still over there. Bush held a small press conference with President Karzai and fielded some questions. Here is what he said when asked about Bin Laden from My Way News:
Asked about the search for Bin Laden, and the president's long-ago call for getting him "dead or alive," Bush said the seach for Bin Laden and his associates continues.

"I am confident he will be brought to justice," Bush said. "We've got U.S. forces on the hunt not only for Bin Laden but anybody who plots and plans with Bin Laden. There are Afghan forces on the hunt...We've got Pakistan forces on the hunt."

Following that the President had lunch with Afghan leaders and talked policy. Then he went to speak with some US troops:
Before leaving Afghanistan, Bush gave a pep talk to U.S. troops at the air base where he landed and departed.
Speaking to about 500 soldiers in a huge recreational tent, Bush expressed resolve at the U.S. mission here.
"I assure you this government of yours will not blink, we will not yield. The United States is not cut and run," Bush said to enthusiastic cheers and applause.

This was a good move for the President as he heads to Asia to meet with leaders of India and Pakistan. He needs to continue these types of things, maybe even stop by Baghdad on his way back to raise morale and symbolically prove that he feels safe enough to go to Iraq instead of just talk about how good things are there. The last 2 weeks have been a disaster for him politically, so anything he can do at this point that might help his poll numbers has my complete endorsement.
